The Community Center Djunta Mon, opened in July 2021, is located in the area of Ribeira Bote in Mindelo on the island of São Vicente in the well known «Casa do Pescador» (House of the fisherman). From Monday to Friday the center offers free educational support in combination with leisure activities. The curriculum is adapted to the regular school and we work closely together. Together we make sure that our offer is directed to those children and adolescents with learning difficulties. Meanwhile (September 2022) our center receives daily 55 childen in the age from 7 – 14 years. The local team, consisting of 4 pedagogical employees, support them to do their homework and in support classes learning gaps are being closed.
Beside the school rooms the building provides bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and a seperate apartment on the backside and as well as a big rooftop. It is used to accomodate tourists and volunteers to combine the social- and the touristic part of the project.
