Our mission - get together and get involved!
Djunta Mon – Join hands!
Our aim is to take action where help is needed. Our focus is to contribute to the education of the growing generation.
Encouragement, information and support through leisure and educational activities, empowerment of the local youth and provision of a meaningful occupation in the time off-school. The work of the Djunta Mon Communtiy Project contributes to strengthen and enhance the community, especially the younger generation, in the vicinity. Beside the work with children, Djunta Mon intends to provide educational services for youth and adults as well.
The community project is active in two main areas:
1. Education & Leisure
The first realized project is the build up of the community center in Ribeira Bote. The Community Center offers support to work towards a positive, stable, professional and successful future for the participants. The center provides barrier-free access for children to education and leisure to counteract social inequality and complement the regular school.
The Community center Djunta Mon offers educational and leisure activities for the local community and is located in the area of Ribeira Bote in Mindelo on the island of São Vicente. Ribeira Bote is known as a rather poor and conflict-ridden district. Although today, thanks to the impressive commitment of social workers and local organisations to support the disadvantaged parts of the population, a great improvement of the situation can already be seen.
2. Tourism
We organise individual volunteering stays and projects with youth and adults.
The term ‹Voluntourism› is a combination of the words «volunteering» and «tourism» and describes a form of travelling. Depending on interest, ability and time frame, the traveller undertakes meaningful work assignments worldwide to improve social, ecological and economical conditions.
The aim is to implement a touristic offer to support a fair, sustainable and regenerative tourism. With this offer, workplaces are created along the value chain with a special focus on Micro and Small Enterprises.
The Djunta Mon Community Project promotes volunteer work & tourism (voluntourism) offer. This includes the offer of voluntary work stays in combination with a touristic and cultural leisure program. Together we design a personal work stay for the tourists which meets their interest and the needs on spot. The aim is to promote a regenerative form of travelling, hence to not only preserve the natural and cultural resources but to leave a positive impact behind. An authentic experience for the traveller, intercultural exchange and positive impacts on all sides are created.
